Job Purpose & Role Summary

The Host/Captain Job in Chennai at Sando Society focuses on delivering exceptional guest service and ensuring smooth restaurant operations.

As a Host/Captain, you will manage guest interactions from arrival to departure, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere and efficient service. You will also support the service team, coordinate with kitchen staff, and maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

This role is critical in shaping the guest experience and maintaining the restaurant’s reputation for quality service and hospitality.

Key Responsibilities

1. Guest Reception & Experience

  • Greet guests warmly upon arrival and escort them to their tables
  • Create a welcoming and positive first impression
  • Understand guest preferences and provide personalized service
  • Thank guests upon departure and ensure a memorable experience

2. Food & Beverage Service

  • Serve food and beverages according to service standards
  • Ensure timely delivery of orders at the correct temperature
  • Maintain quality and presentation standards
  • Upsell menu items and promote special offers

3. Table Management & Setup

  • Set tables according to restaurant standards before service
  • Ensure cleanliness and readiness of assigned workstations
  • Monitor table turnover and manage seating efficiently
  • Clear and reset tables promptly after guest departure

4. Coordination & Team Support

  • Work closely with kitchen and service teams for smooth operations
  • Assist kitchen staff during peak hours when required
  • Coordinate with supervisors and team members on guest requirements
  • Support overall restaurant workflow

5. Hygiene & Safety Compliance

  • Follow food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP guidelines)
  • Maintain cleanliness in service areas and workstations
  • Ensure proper handling of food and beverages
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations

6. Customer Service & Issue Handling

  • Address guest queries and resolve concerns professionally
  • Report complaints or irregularities to management
  • Maintain a calm and professional approach in all situations
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction

7. Operational Duties

  • Perform opening and closing duties as assigned
  • Maintain service areas and side stations
  • Ensure all service procedures are followed
  • Support daily restaurant operations

Qualifications & Skills

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Hospitality or hotel management training is an advantage

Experience

  • 1–2 years of experience in hospitality or food service industry preferred
  • Freshers with strong communication skills may also be considered
